Random Text Generator for Words, Sentences and Gibberish Text
Generate varied English-style sample text, invented gibberish, or exact-length character strings for layouts, mockups, forms, and software testing.
How to Use the Random Text Generator
The UtilityDocks Random Text Generator creates English-style sample text, invented gibberish, and configurable character strings. Use it to fill a mockup, test a form, check line wrapping, or generate temporary text when your final content is not ready.
Unlike a traditional Lorem Ipsum tool, this generator can work with ordinary English words and made-up text. Choose one of five modes, enter the amount you need, and create a new result without manually writing test content.
Select Words, Sentences, Paragraphs, Gibberish, or Characters. The settings below change to match your selection.
Enter a quantity or tap a preset, then adjust word length, separators, paragraph structure, or character sets where relevant.
Select Generate Random Text, then copy the result, make another variation, or download a plain TXT file.
Generate Random Words, Sentences, Paragraphs and More
Different testing tasks need different output. A navigation label needs a few words, a design mockup needs natural-looking blocks, and a form test may need a precisely sized string. The modes in this random text generator are designed for those distinct situations.
Random Words
Generate a requested number of English words. Separate them with spaces, commas, or line breaks, and choose lowercase, Title Case, or UPPERCASE. Useful for labels, word lists, and quick layout tests.
Random Sentences
Generate English-style sentences with a chosen minimum and maximum word count. Optionally include ending punctuation. Use these for captions, description areas, and sentence-length testing.
Random Paragraphs
Create multi-sentence blocks and control both sentences per paragraph and words per sentence. The result is useful for columns, article templates, and responsive page layouts.
Gibberish Text
Generate made-up words arranged into sentences and paragraphs. This is useful when you want text-shaped content without familiar words drawing attention away from the layout.
Random Characters
Build exact-length lines from lowercase letters, uppercase letters, digits, symbols, spaces, or your own character set. Use this for sample strings and field-length tests.
The sentences and paragraphs are assembled from a limited word bank and templates. They are sample copy, not quotations, researched statements, guaranteed natural prose, or text ready for publication.
Which Random Text Mode Should You Choose?
Start with the type of content your interface must handle. Generating a larger quantity does not automatically create a better test: a short label and a full article section fail in different ways.
| Mode | What you control | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Words | Word quantity, separator, letter case | Menus, labels, keyword-style lists, short fields |
| Sentences | Sentence quantity, words per sentence, punctuation | Cards, summaries, banners, captions |
| Paragraphs | Paragraph quantity, sentences per paragraph, words per sentence | Article layouts, columns, long-form page templates |
| Gibberish | Paragraph quantity and sentences per paragraph | Mockups that need invented rather than recognizable words |
| Characters | Characters per line, line count, character sets | Form limits, sample identifiers, input validation |
For example, a card that breaks when its summary becomes longer is a good candidate for Sentences mode. A textarea with a strict size limit is a better candidate for Characters mode.
Random Text vs Lorem Ipsum: What Is the Difference?
Both types of text can serve as placeholders, but they create a different reading experience. Random English-style text looks more familiar to an English reader, while Lorem Ipsum provides conventional Latin-derived filler that is not intended to read as ordinary English.
| Feature | Random text | Lorem Ipsum |
|---|---|---|
| Typical appearance | English words or invented text, depending on mode | Traditional Latin-derived filler |
| Common purpose | Varied mockup text and controlled test strings | Conventional placeholder content |
| Word choice | Generated using the selected mode and its word or character bank | Built from a familiar filler-text style |
| Useful distinction | Includes a dedicated character-set testing mode | Includes the classic Lorem Ipsum opening |
For a familiar placeholder passage, use the Lorem Ipsum Generator. For randomly varied English-style words, invented gibberish, or test strings, use this Random Text Generator.
How to Generate Gibberish Text
Gibberish is text that does not communicate an ordinary, intended meaning. In this tool, the Gibberish mode makes invented words and arranges them into sentence-like paragraphs. The words are generated from built-in word parts; the result is not a real language or a translation.
This mode can be useful for a mockup where recognizable English creates an unwanted reading distraction. It also differs from a completely unstructured character string because it retains word spaces, sentence endings, and paragraph breaks.
Gibberish resembles text blocks. Characters mode is for testing a defined alphabet and length, such as a field that must accept 32 characters. These modes are not interchangeable.
Generate Random Characters for Form and Software Testing
Character mode is useful when an exact quantity matters. Select the number of characters per line and the number of lines, then choose which characters may appear. The tool supports lowercase and uppercase English letters, digits, symbols, spaces, and additional custom characters.
Test minimum and maximum lengths
Generate short and long sample values to check input limits, wrapping, trimming, and overflow in forms or applications.
Choose custom characters
Include additional characters to test whether your field accepts the expected symbols or non-English characters.
Exclude ambiguous characters
Remove visually similar 0/O and 1/l/I from the generated alphabet when readability matters in a test.
Generate multiple lines
Make repeated test strings without re-entering settings. Each generated line follows the requested per-line length.
The current tool allows up to 2,000 characters per line, up to 40 lines, and a maximum of 25,000 generated characters across the lines, excluding line breaks. These limits help keep the tool responsive.
Random character strings from this tool are sample data, not a replacement for the dedicated Password Generator when you need a password.
Random Text Generator Limits and Output Options
Each mode has its own quantity range. These limits are part of the UtilityDocks tool, not universal limits for text generation.
| Mode | Allowed quantity | Additional settings |
|---|---|---|
| Words | 1 to 5,000 words | Spaces, commas, line breaks, and case |
| Sentences | 1 to 150 sentences | 4 to 28 words per sentence |
| Paragraphs | 1 to 30 paragraphs | 1 to 12 sentences per paragraph, 4 to 28 words per sentence |
| Gibberish | 1 to 30 paragraphs | 1 to 12 invented-text sentences per paragraph |
| Characters | 1 to 2,000 per line | 1 to 40 lines, subject to a 25,000-character total limit |
Use Generate Again to get another variation with the current settings. Select Copy Text to paste the result elsewhere or Download TXT to save a plain-text version. A TXT file does not preserve rich styling such as fonts, bold text, or page columns.
The output panel shows words, characters, lines, and paragraphs. The character statistic excludes line breaks, so it may differ from the total number of characters in a copied multi-line text file when newline characters are counted.
Common Uses for Random Sample Text
A free random text generator can save time when you need many examples of temporary content. It is especially useful when you want to test how a layout or form handles different lengths rather than create finished writing.
- Website layouts and responsive typography
- Mobile app screens and navigation labels
- Landing page and email template mockups
- Form input and textarea validation
- CMS and theme template previews
- Database fields populated with non-sensitive samples
- Word wrapping and truncation checks
- Presentation and print-layout placeholders
Check layout with varied lengths
A page can look balanced with one familiar filler paragraph and break when the next example is longer. Try multiple quantities to see how headings, cards, columns, and buttons behave as content changes.
Test forms with controlled strings
Character mode can help test whether an application accepts a minimum-length entry, handles a large value, or preserves symbols and non-English characters. It cannot, by itself, confirm that an application is secure or that every edge case has been tested.
How Does a Random Text Generator Work?
The UtilityDocks tool uses built-in word lists and templates for the English-style modes. Words mode selects items from its word bank. Sentences and paragraphs combine selected words and phrases into requested structures. Gibberish mode constructs invented words from letter groups and places them into sentences and paragraphs.
Characters mode works differently: it picks from the character sets you enable. The generation logic uses the browser’s cryptographic random-value API for random selections, but the resulting content is still intended as sample text, not verified information or a security credential.
Because each run makes fresh selections, repeated generations can produce different text. Individual words or phrases may recur, especially when requesting long outputs from a finite word bank. Generated paragraphs should not be judged as coherent articles or proofread prose.

When Should You Replace Random Text With Real Content?
Temporary copy is useful early in design, but it should not remain on a finished public page. Real writing introduces meaningful headings, links, varied word lengths, technical terms, lists, and different reading patterns that generated text cannot predict reliably.
Before publishing, check the final content for clarity, accessibility, factual accuracy, appropriate links, and whether the design still works on mobile. For localization work, test the actual translated language as well; English-looking filler cannot predict text expansion or writing-direction needs.
Random English-style sentences may sound plausible without making sense. Do not treat them as source-backed statements, product descriptions, legal wording, user instructions, or content ready for search engines.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a random text generator?
It is a tool that creates text samples using selected rules. Depending on the mode, the output may contain ordinary words, sentence-style content, invented words, or character strings.
Can I generate exactly 100 random words?
Yes. Select Words, enter 100, and generate the output. You can also choose spaces, commas, or line breaks to separate the words.
Can I generate random paragraphs?
Yes. Select Paragraphs, enter the number of paragraphs, and set the minimum and maximum sentences per paragraph and words per sentence.
What is gibberish text used for?
It can fill a mockup with word-shaped content without familiar English wording. In this tool it is generated from invented words, not translated from another language.
Does character mode generate an exact length?
It generates the requested number of characters per line from the selected alphabet. Line breaks between generated lines are separate from the character count shown in the result panel.
Can I include numbers, symbols, or custom characters?
Yes, in Characters mode. Enable the character sets you want and add custom characters if needed.
Can I download the generated random text?
Yes. Select Download TXT to save the generated result as a plain-text file, or Copy Text to place it on the clipboard.
Is random text the same as Lorem Ipsum?
No. This tool produces varied English-style text, gibberish, and character strings. Lorem Ipsum is a traditional form of Latin-derived placeholder text.
Can I use generated character strings as passwords?
Use the separate Password Generator for credentials. Characters mode is presented here for testing and sample data, not password-policy guidance.
Create the Random Text You Need
Choose a mode based on what you want to test, set the amount, and generate a new sample. The Random Text Generator lets you move from English words and paragraphs to invented filler or character strings without mixing those tasks into a single confusing set of controls.
When the result fits your use case, copy it or save a TXT file. For a conventional Latin-style placeholder passage, use the Lorem Ipsum Generator instead.
